I've seen some faces that allow you to alter what the short cuts are, though I don't know if that's difficult to program.
So if they were preset short cuts, I would suggest something along the lines of phone, messages, music, and weather.
If there were even more short cuts, I'd suggest start and select be something like exercise and heart rate, and touching the date would bring you to the Callender.
Of course these are just wishes from someone who never tried programming a watch face before, so I have no clue how much more work would go into a face like that.
