According to Norse mythology, Mjölnir is one of the most terrifying and powerful weapons there is. Although this was used as a weapon by the god of thunder, this symbol was also used in ceremonies to bless marriages, births and funerals. Despite the chaos the weapon was capable of, this symbol stands for blessing, consecration and protection. Some sources suggest that Mjöllnir means "lightning" while others claim that it could mean "white" (as in the color of lightning) and / or "fresh snow" (in a sense that it represents purity). Another interpretation of the word suggests that the meaning is much closer to the term "crushing" or "smashing". According to Norse mythology, mjölnir was not just a weapon but a tool that Thor used for many purposes. Thor consecrated things and people with his hammer and brought them from the realm of chaos into the holy realm, that is, into the cosmos. It was also believed that he used Mjolnir to bless marriages and thereby make the couple fertile.
