VR011 Naval Radio Room

After the Titanic’s sinking, international practices were put in place in order to monitor certain radio bands for maritime distress calls. Specific times were established as 3-minute periods of radio silence for this monitoring. Clock faces were designed to help keep track of these periods in the radio/communications rooms onboard ships and submarines. Many radio room operators also wore wristwatches with these face designs. The established periods were 3-minute intervals at 15 and 45 minutes past each hour (silence periods on the 500KHz radio band), as well as 3-minute intervals at the top of each hour and at 30 and minutes past each hour (silence periods on the 2182KHz radio band). Vintage Soviet radio room design. 500KHz silence periods are indicated by 3-minute red segments, and 2182KHz silence periods by 3-minute pink segments. The dial features fading complications to keep the dial minimal and uncluttered. Weather indicators require proper permissions to be set on both watch and phone’s Facer app.
