WATCH FACE FOR WEAR OS (LEGACY) & Tizen
VR150 Regatta Yacht Timer I
This face will likely not find much appeal or practical use, but it was an excellent project I wanted to research and complete!
I like the unusual, and this is unusual indeed: an elegant, intriguing, and oddball vintage timepiece from the world of 1970’s regatta/yacht racing. A special-purpose instrument for timing regatta yacht races, this is basically a plain watch (inner dial) plus a 10-minute countdown timer (outer dial) that should be well understood by those involved with yachts and sailing.
FEATURES: chromed hours and minutes hands, orange chrono hand, and fading indicators. CONTROLS: tap 2 o’clock to start/stop the chrono, tap 4 o’clock to reset the chrono. BASIC FUNCTIONS: with chrono active, orange hand counts down the seconds, and colored minutes disk counts down the minutes. NOTE: original design did not have a “normal” seconds hand, but one has been added here so the watch doesn’t look idle; it is only visible when the chrono is stopped/reset (and the orange chrono seconds hand is idle).
HOW IT WORKS:
The window at top-right of the outer dial shows the 10 minute countdown disk underneath the dial, marked 10 to 6 (5 yellow segments), 5 to 1 (5 red segments), and followed by the word START (in 5 white segments). Each segment is 60 seconds, for a total of 10 minutes. The chrono is reset (control @ 4 o’clock) before the race, this resets the countdown disk and puts the 10 yellow segment at the dial’s start point, indicated by orange arrow at 12 o’clock. At the first sounding of the race’s horn/gun, the chrono is started (control @ 2 o’clock), all boats have 10 minutes to get to the start line. Every 30 seconds, the disk rotates counter-clockwise by 1/2 a segment. After 5 minutes, the yellow segment is finished, the red segment takes up the entire window, and there’s 5 minutes left to reach the start line. After 10 minutes, both yellow and red segments have rotated off the dial, only the white segments with word START show in the window, the second horn/gun is sounded, and the race starts. At this point, the minutes disk and orange chrono seconds hand stop moving.
Weather indicators require the appropriate permissions on both phone and watch.
