Future Boy Conan
Owing to its inconsistent availability country to country, Future Boy Conan remains underseen even among most Studio Ghibli devotees. This is something fans must rectify by any means. Directed by Hayao Miyazaki in collaboration with Isao Takahata, this 26-episode series features a flooded post-apocalyptic Earth, warring human factions, a boy with superhuman strength, a girl with telepathic powers, and, of course, pirates and seaplanes. The show bears all the hallmarks of Hayao Miyazaki's masterpieces, like worthy female protagonists, environmentalist messages, and complex, shifting relationships between heroes and villains.
